The rifle listed on this page is a Springfield M1903 manufactured in 1926. This rifle is chambered for the American Springfield 30-06 cartridge. This rifle was re-barreled by using a USMC 1941 barrel made by Sedgley which held the contract for the Marine Corps rebuilds as far as barrels go. This rifle sports a scant semi-pistol grip stock that must have been installed sometime during WWII. The bore is great with a lot of shine. The rifle has the parkerized finish with is correct for a 1903 built in 1903. The serial number range of this rifle is in the safe range and is safe to fire live ammo. Springfield had trouble with the hardening of the metal receivers below the 800,000 range, but any serial above this range had been corrected and safe to fire. This particular example is in the 1,200,000 range. Not sure about this being an actual USMC rifle, but it was re-barreled using an earlier example of a USMC barrel. It does not have some of the tell-tell signs of USMC issue besides the barrel and the electro penciled serial numbered bolt. It does not have the hatcher hole drilled in the left side receiver wall, but that could be because of the high numbered serial. The trigger guard/floor plate assembly is a stamped unit of a 1903A3. That is the only stamped part on the rifle. Thanks for looking.
